The European Standard ‘EN 343:2019 Protection against rain’ distinguishes between four classes of a garments performance, based on separate water-proofness and breathability capabilities. WATERPROOFNESS Waterproofness of the material is measured by testing the level of resistance to water penetration (Wp). Hydrostatic pressure is measured in a column of water (in Pascals) until water penetrates the fabric. BREATHABILITY The water vapour permeability or breathability of a garment is tested by measuring its resistance to water vapour. The lower the Ret value, the higher the breathability of the material.
